Sure thing. You’ve come to the right place. 

1. Be courageous. I meet a lot of young Christians who do a lot of hand-wringing, and wander around in a fog of “who’s to say?”. Pray, ask God for a green light, and if He gives it, do your thing (with God’s widsom, of course). A lovely Christian lady sent this in recently, and I think it tells the whole story.

Dearest Unka Glen. Could you please tell the fellas out there that there is nothing wrong with being in love! 1) Could you also let them know that their fear should be considered a sin since, God didn’t give us the spirit of fear. 2) Isn’t it possible for a man to convince himself out of a relationship, or anything God has for them in life, by using excuses like, “I’m not ready because I don’t have EVERYTHING in order”  Am I right? Yah…I am. lol

2. No gimmicks, no lines, no game playing. Women are smarter than we are, and they see through game. You have to actually be a decent brother. In fact you’re much better off giving an honest, simple, heart-felt compliment that comes off goofy, than you are trying to act slick. 

Be confident because you’re a good brother, and you only want to take her out and get to know one another, and you don’t have any sinful intentions here. Tell her, “I don’t know what I’m doing, but you’re so dang pretty it makes me feel all tingly inside and like I can’t breathe right, but in a good way, and you’ll have to be a little patient with me, because all I know about dating is I just really want to be with you.”

That’s a fine place to start.

3. Bail water. When you’re in a boat, and you’re taking on water, you aren’t really at a place where you can develop strategy. That comes after you’ve got things under control. Until then, you need to bail water. You see flowers, and you know your lady likes flowers, then you buy flowers. You think of saying something nice, you say that thing. You know when Scotty says, “I’m giving it everah-thann she’s got Captain!”? That’s where you need to be.

4. Observe and learn. Women, being far more complicated and evolved, cannot be understood by us fully, but we should noticethings and learn. For example, women always want a blanket. It seems warm in here to you, but trust me, there are drafts and chills you don’t even know about. There should always be a blanket standing by. If you’re away from the house, your outer layer of clothing will serve as the blanket.

But the point is: anticipate, right? You see her shiver, then you give her the coat. She comes over, you say, “here’s a blanket”, testing you, she says “what for?”, and you say, “just in case”. She’ll nod and smile because she’ll know that you’re hip to the whole blanket scene. Notice what she likes and surprise her with it. It’s the little things my man.

5. Set an example. If you decide to read a chapter a day out of the Bible together, you read ahead, you study up. and prepare for your time together. You never, ever ask more of the people around you, than you do of yourself. You go the extra mile, you ask more of yourself, that’s what being a man is all about.

6. Show respect. Women are different, way different. be understanding because they’re right a lot of the time. They’re more sensitive and nurturing and considerate and they smell nicer, and that’s a good thing. Respect the feminine view of things, or it will not go well for you in the land. Women are highly networked, and they have eyes everywhere.

7. Pray. Specifically, that God would mold you into being the kind of man you need to be for this relationship. You don’t have to be Superman, or have all the answers, or be able to fix everything. Just give God what you have, He can work with it, and turn you into an amazing husband and father, I promise.
